  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter cold
  • 1 cup milk whole milk preferred
For the Strawberries
  • 2 cups fresh strawberries ripe and sweet
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar for macerating
For the Whipped Cream
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Method
 

Baking the Shortcake
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Mix the dry ingredients in a large bowl: flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cream together butter and sugar in another bowl until light and fluffy (about 3-5 minutes).
  4. Combine wet ingredients gradually into the creamed mixture, mixing until just combined.
  5. Fold in the dry ingredients carefully with a spatula.
  6. Pour the batter into a greased round cake pan and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown.
  7. Cool the cake on a wire rack for about 10-15 minutes before removing it from the pan.
Preparing Strawberries and Whipped Cream
  1. Prepare fresh strawberries by washing, hulling, and slicing them thinly.
  2. In a bowl, combine sliced strawberries with granulated sugar and let them macerate.
  3. Whip heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until soft peaks form.
Assembling the Dessert
  1. Slice the cooled shortcake and layer with macerated strawberries and whipped cream.
  2. Serve immediately and enjoy!
