Prepare the onions
- Slice the onions thinly and set aside.
Cook the onions
- In a skillet, heat the butter and olive oil over medium heat.
- Add the sliced onions and salt, stirring to coat.
- Cook for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the onions are golden brown and caramelized.
- If desired, add sugar during the last 5 minutes for extra sweetness.
