For the Batter
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour sifted
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
For the Optional Glaze
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp milk or cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cream the butter and sugar together in a large mixing bowl until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  4. Sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt in a separate bowl.
  5. Combine the dry ingredients with the creamed mixture gradually, alternating with milk, blending for 2-3 minutes until just combined.
  6. Pour the batter into a greased cake pan, filling it about halfway.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  8. Cool the cake in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. Optional: Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
