Cooking the Spaghetti
- Start by filling a large pot with water and bring it to a rolling boil over high heat. Add a sprinkle of salt once it’s bubbling.
- Add your spaghetti and cook according to package instructions, usually around 8-10 minutes, until al dente. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
Preparing the Sauce
- While the pasta cooks, heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté minced garlic until fragrant, about 1 minute, then add crushed tomatoes and seasonings.
- Let the sauce simmer on low for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally until it thickens slightly.
Combining and Serving
- Drain the spaghetti, reserving a bit of pasta water. Toss the drained pasta with the sauce in the skillet, adding a splash of reserved water if needed for creaminess.
- Plate your spaghetti and garnish with freshly grated Parmesan cheese and chopped basil.
